Headshot of Ms. Heather Sanchez

Trinidad Middle/High School proudly welcomes Heather Sanchez as the new band and choir teacher. Mrs. Sanchez brings with her a wealth of experience from a 26-year career teaching music in New Mexico.

Heather grew up in Socorro, NM, where she learned to speak Spanish. She was awarded a National Merit Scholarship, which funded her college education. Mrs. Sanchez has one son, a senior at New Mexico Tech in her hometown of Socorro.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Sanchez taught guitar, mariachi, band, choir, and piano in Albuquerque Public Schools for 23 years. She then moved on to teach in Socorro Public Schools and the Ignacio School District. After dedicating 26 years to teaching in New Mexico, she retired and relocated to Trinidad, Colorado.

There were several factors that drew Mrs. Sanchez to Trinidad, including the proximity to family in Albuquerque and the beautiful surroundings of Trinidad State Lake. Outside of the classroom, Heather enjoys hiking around the lake with her husband and their dog. She is an avid singer, pianist, and quilter.

In addition to her teaching, Mrs. Sanchez has sung professionally for churches since 2014 and collaborated with New Mexico Tech as a vocal coach and accompanist for musicals.

We are thrilled to have Mrs. Sanchez join our team and look forward to the musical creativity and passion she brings to the students of Trinidad Middle/High School!
