Mr. Jeff Hecht teaches Science at Trinidad Middle School. He first came to teach Science at TMS when the former teacher left mid-year. He adds, “I just wanted to help. I wanted to make a difference. It makes me feel good to be involved in moving kids forward.” Mr. Hecht began his educational journey right out of college when a priest friend asked him to teach at his school. With five years of part-time teaching at a local school while in college, he gave it a try. He declares, “I found it was what I was meant to do.” His greatest joy he shares is when “a former student comes back to me with a success story. I take a great deal of joy in that.” Teaching science comes naturally to Mr. Hecht since both his Chemistry and Latin teachers inspired him to pursue teaching.
On a more personal note, Mr. Hecht said people are surprised to learn that he is 70 years old. In fact, his dream goal is to, “make it to age 96 . . . so I can pay off the mortgage and give the kids the house free and clear.” Most likely his hobbies, which include working out, hiking and kick boxing keep him going strong. He added that people might be surprised by his passion for kick boxing. He shared that of his personal achievements, he is particularly proud of his records as an athletic director and Science Academic Olympics. Since Mr. Hecht plans to live to the age of 96, he has plenty of time to check off a trip to Alaska, which is on his bucket list.
