Headshot of Kathy Vigil

Trinidad School District’s Food Services Director, Kathy Vigil, is a familiar and beloved face in our community. A proud alumna of TSD1, Kathy graduated with the Class of 1988 and has dedicated much of her career to ensuring that students and staff have access to delicious and nutritious meals. Her journey is a testament to hard work, community roots, and the power of kindness.

Kathy’s career with TSD1 began in the humblest of ways—as a substitute in the district’s cafeterias. In 2002, she was officially hired as a kitchen helper at Trinidad High School, where her talents and dedication quickly became evident. By 2016, Kathy had been promoted to Head Cook, and just two years later, she stepped into her current role as Director of Food Services. Through every step of her journey, Kathy has brought passion, determination, and an infectious smile to her work.

Her love of food isn’t new; it’s a part of who she is. Kathy grew up helping at her uncle’s restaurant, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. Her mother’s work as a waitress added to Kathy’s early connection with the food industry. These experiences ignited a lifelong love for creating meals that bring people together—a love she continues to share with the Trinidad community.

When she’s not overseeing the district’s food services, Kathy cherishes spending time with her family. She has two children and one grandson who keep her busy and laughing. She also enjoys shopping, camping, and fishing—activities that let her relax and connect with nature. And though her roots run deep in Trinidad, Kathy dreams of exploring the world. Inspired by Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel, her top destination is Barcelona, the city she hopes will kick off her global adventures.

One of the things that makes Kathy so special is her strong connection to Trinidad. Known for her kindness and hard work, she has become an integral part of the fabric of our community. In a town where everyone seems to be related (and Kathy truly is connected to almost everyone!), she’s a shining example of what makes Trinidad a wonderful place to live and work.

Thank you, Kathy, for your dedication to Trinidad’s students and for being a role model of kindness and perseverance. Our district is lucky to have you leading the way in food services!
